Consultation on guidance for developers of storage and pump storage hydropower schemes
SEPA is asking for views on draft guidance for large hydropower projects that store water for more than 24 hours.
The guidance explains:
- what developers need to do, and
- how SEPA will decide if a project can go ahead, including how to reduce harm to the environment and balance this with other benefits.
SEPA wants feedback from the public and stakeholders to improve the guidance.
The consultation closes on 16 September 2026.
