The Pollution Prevention and Control (Fees) (Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations 2022

These Regulations make provision to amend the fees charged in relation to activities carried out by the Secretary of State relating to the environmental regulation of the offshore oil and gas industry.

2018

Pollution Prevention and Control (Industrial Emissions) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2018 SR33

Amend the PPC (IE) Regulations 2013 to introduce provisions relating to medium combustion plants (MCP). Transpose the EU’s MCP Directive, which lays down rules to control emissions of sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide and dust from MCPs.

Pollution Prevention and Control (Industrial Emissions) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2016 SR309

Amends the 2013 PPC Regulations to take account of EU Directive 2014/99/EU, which sets two new standards for equipment used for Stage II petrol vapour recovery.

Environmental Better Regulation Act (Northern Ireland) 2016

The Act is a key element of the Department’s Regulatory Transformation Programme, the aim of which is to provide a more streamlined and effective regulatory system for businesses and regulators. Key provisions include:- The creation of an integrated environmental permitting regime. Rationalising powers of entry and associated powers (inspection and investigation). Amendments to the Clean Air (NI) Order 1981. Amendments to the Environment (NI) Order 2002. Amendments to the Water and Sewage Services (NI) Order 2006.

Amends 1991/49, to clarify the meanings of gas and coke works, acrylates works and incinerator works.

Control of Pollution (Applications and Registers) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2001 SR 284

Sets procedures for applying or varying consents under Part 2 of the Water (Northern Ireland) Order 1999, including advertising applications and details required on the water pollution control register.

EU Regulation allowing voluntary participation by organisations in a community eco-management and audit scheme (EMAS) 761/2001

Revises the EU eco-management and audit scheme (EMAS), a voluntary scheme businesses wanting to evaluate and improve their environmental performance.

Covers several environmental issues, including pollution prevention control, assessment and management of air quality, and designation of areas of special scientific interest (ASSIs).

Food Waste Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2015 SR14

Provide for the separate collection of food waste. They place a duty on food businesses producing in excess of 5kg of food waste per week to present food waste for separate collection and place a duty on businesses to ensure food waste is not deposited in a lateral drain or sewer. Place a duty on those who transport food waste to collect and transport such waste separately from other waste.

Industrial Pollution Control (Northern Ireland) Order 1997 SI 2777 (including updates to 2004)

Sets out which polluting industrial processes and substances require authorisations, how to transfer or vary an authorisation, how to appeal, and related fines and sentences (amended by PPC Regulations.)

Industrial Pollution Control (1997 Order) (Commencement No. 2) Order (Northern Ireland) 2005 SR 77 c. 7

Pollution Control and Local Government (Northern Ireland) Order 1978 SR 1049 (NI 19)

Regulates waste on land, abandoned vehicles, noise nuisance, noise abatement zones, sulphur content of oil fuel used in furnaces and engines, cable burning, and pollution of the atmosphere and water. Other aspects have been revoked.

Amends 1998/28 to add loading, unloading, handling, storing and physical or chemical treatment of emulsified hydrocarbons intended for use as a fuel to the list of processes that require authorisation.

Pollution Prevention and Control (Industrial Emissions) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012 SR 453

Establish a pollution control regime for certain installations or mobile plants. Sets out a permitting regime based on Best Available Techniques for regulating installations and activities. Transpose the IED and replace existing Pollution Prevention and Control legislation as listed the schedule 17 of the Regulations.

Pollution Prevention Control (Industrial Emissions) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2013 SR 160

Transpose Directive 2010/75/EU on industrial emissions (integrated pollution prevention and control (Recast)).The Regulations revoke 18 sets of existing regulations relating to industrial emissions and consolidate all the provisions of the Industrial Emissions Directive in to a single set of regulations. They control the operation of any installation or mobile plant carry out any of the activities listed in Part 1 of Schedule 1 to the Regulations.

Pollution Prevention (Industrial Emissions) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2014 SR304

Amend 2013/160. Add a new activity to Part C of section1.1 of schedule1 (combustion activities), namely burning any fuel or fuels in a combination of boilers, furnaces, turbines or compression ignition engines on the same site which, when added together, have a net rated thermal input exceeding 20 megawatts but less than 50 megawatts, which would not otherwise require a permit, to have a permit to operate. Add a new schedule 13A, which provides for a cost benefit analysis to be carried out in some circumstances.
