  • mineral activities, such as production of cement, lime, glass and ceramics
  • production of chemicals, including fertilisers and pharmaceuticals
  • waste activities, such as operating a landfill site or incinerator
  • timber and paper, such as manufacture, treatment or preservation of wood products
  • activities involving the use of solvents, such as coating, printing and dry cleaning
  • agriculture and food industries, such as slaughterhouses, intensive farming installations, tanneries

  • Pollution prevention and control (PPC) permits, in Northern Ireland
  • EASR authorisations, in Scotland

In Northern Ireland, if your business carries out an industrial activity, you may need a PPC permit. You can apply for a PPC permit from the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) or your district council

In Scotland, if your business carries out an industrial activity, you may need an EASR industrial activity authorisation. You can apply for an EASR authorisation from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).
