This Climate Week, we had the opportunity to visit the Change Waste Recycling facility in Edinburgh—a hub of innovation, sustainability, and community-driven environmental action.

Change Waste Recycling has a clear mission: to reduce landfill use, recover valuable resources, and help businesses recycle more by offering stress free waste management that drives positive environmental change. Their approach is rooted in source segregation, a method that separates waste at the point of generation, ensuring cleaner and more efficient recycling outcomes. They are the only waste management company in Scotland with the ability to offer High Quality Recycling' (HQR) alongside a Dry Mixed Recycling option (DMR).

Each area of the site is designed to handle specific waste streams—paper, plastics, glass, food waste, and confidential documents. The scale of their operation is impressive. Covering Edinburgh and Glasgow, they process 500 tonnes of waste every week, and in 2024 achieved a remarkable 99.8% waste diversion rate from landfills.

Change Waste Recycling represents the kind of forward-thinking Scottish business that's making net zero ambitions a reality. Their success demonstrates that with the right approach and commitment, we can create a circular economy where waste becomes a resource, and environmental responsibility drives business innovation.

As we work towards our climate goals, partnerships with organisations like Change Waste Recycling show us that sustainable solutions aren't just possible, they're profitable, practical, and already happening right here in Scotland.
