Proposed Nitrates Action Programme (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2018

The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) is currently consulting on proposed amendments to the Nitrates Action Programme Regulations (NI) 2014. The proposed amendments reflect the new values for the Nitrogen and Phosphorus contents of poultry litter as a result of further research which was carried out.

Table 1c of Schedule 1 values have been updated except for fattening ducks, it now also includes livestock types, categorised by age range for Broilers and Turkeys as well as including some additional categories.

Table 2 of Schedule 1 values have been updated for Pig slurries, Poultry manures, Farmyard manures (for goats and horses), also separated pig slurry (solid portion) under miscellaneous manures. It also replaces the livestock types, so that they are now categorised by age range for Boilers and Turkeys under Poultry manures, as well as including some additional categories.

The consultation closes on 31 January 2018 and it is proposed that the new Regulations will come into operation on 1 March 2018.
